Object Relations Study Group “Descent into Chaos: Evocation of the Unrepresented in Analytic Psychotherapy”

Please join IPI Indy as Bryan Votaw, LMHC, LPC, ACS (IPI Indy and IPI National Faculty), Rachel Clark, LMHCA, and Amy Rager, LMHCA lead us into the abyss with their class: “Descent into Chaos: Evocation of the Unrepresented in Analytic Psychotherapy”. In the presentation, we will learn about working with unrepresented states in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Amy and Rachel will present disguised clinical case material, and there will be plenty of room for discussion.

Course Description:
Trauma emerges in treatment in a number of forms, and sometimes, it comes up in seemingly formless and unrepresented states. When communication of psychic materials happens without name or when words cannot be found, the result presents a challenging therapeutic situation for both the patient and therapist. Educational Objectives:

1. Participants will be able to differentiate one difference between represented and unrepresented states. 

2. Participants will be able to describe one function of introjective identification in clinical practice. 

3. Participants will be able to identify a patient in the grip of a state of non-representation.
